The management of Manchester Airport has decided to «temporarily» close its runways due to the heavy snowfall that hit the United Kingdom this weekend and which has led to the activation of the yellow alert for inclement weather in part of the country.
As detailed by Manchester Airport on its official Twitter profile, this measure has been taken in order to preserve «the health and integrity» of both employees and passengers. «Operations will resume as soon as possible,» they added.
The UK Met Office has already warned in previous days that fog, sleet, snow and frost could cause travel disruptions over the next few days on British territory, according to Sky News.
However, the relevant authorities have stressed that the areas most likely to be affected by the inclement weather are the west of England, parts of Northern Ireland, southwest Scotland and Wales, according to the BBC.
