The Belarusian government said Friday that it has decided to extend until next June the ban on imports of products from Western countries considered «unfriendly».

The ban was first introduced earlier this year and after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, although it was extended for another six months in the summer.

Now, it has been extended until June 30, according to information from the Belarusian government, which has now clarified that these are measures imposed as a result of Western sanctions over the war in Ukraine.

The measure particularly affects the import of vegetables and root crops, such as potatoes, onions, carrots, cabbage and beet, as well as nuts and apples. In June 2022, the Government lifted a series of restriction measures imposed until then and affecting countries such as the United States, Canada, Albania, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Norway, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Switzerland.

On the other hand, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has warned that the deadline for forming a single energy market with Russia has expired, according to information from the BelTA news agency.

«Let me remind you that the program for the formation of this single market includes measures that have not been implemented. Who is responsible for this and how are we going to correct it,» he said.
