The President of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, has avoided answering about the alleged involvement of Morocco in the scandal of bribery of the European Parliament from Qatar, known as ‘Qatargate’, and has assured that he will wait for the conclusion of the investigations to «take note and act».

This was stated by Sanchez at the press conference after the meeting of the European Council in Brussels, when asked about the information of the Almean media ‘Der Spiegel’ which has indicated that Morocco would be involved in the corruption scheme to gain political and economic weight in Brussels, where the now former vice president of the European Parliament, the Socialist Eva Kaili and the Italian former MEP Pier Antonio Panzeri have been arrested.

Francesco Giorgi, Kaili’s partner and arrested in the operation against corruption for bribes paid by Qatar, has also implicated Thursday in a statement to the police MEP Andrea Cozzolino, head of delegation of the European Parliament for relations with the Maghreb, including Morocco.

At this point, he wanted to put his trust in the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and in the Belgian justice and wait for the conclusions of the investigations to take «from the political and diplomatic point of view» the measures «appropriate to defend the autonomy or independence» of the institution.

«It is a case of extraordinary gravity and we have to have all the data to be able to confluence all the actions that come later,» he added.
