The president of Cidob, Pol Morillas, has presented this Monday its 2022 yearbook, which analyzes what happened in the war in Ukraine, and in which the researchers Carmen Claudín and Marie Mendras have highlighted that «Russia is losing more and more every day» in the war.
This is what they said at the presentation of the international yearbook, ‘The geopolitics of reglobalization’, an event in which the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has also participated telematically, and in person the Minister of Foreign Action of the Generalitat, Meritxell Serret.
Claudín affirmed that «Russia is losing because it has not yet emerged victorious», after which he highlighted the role of the Ukrainian resistance, and maintained that now the idea of Ukraine as the winner of the conflict is not unthinkable, as he considers it was at the beginning of the war.
He valued the fact that the Ukrainian president, Volodymir Zelenski, said, after a month of war, that Ukraine would remain a neutral state and would not join NATO «at least for a long, long time», but he reproached that these words are not enough for Russia.
On the future of the conflict, Claudin assured that it is not possible to know how it will end and it is too early to say, but he assured that the determination of the Ukrainian people will be important as well as the «development policies».
INDEPENDENT MULTILATERAL INSTITUTION For his part, Mendras stressed that it is necessary to know what kind of government there will be in Moscow in the future, defended the support to the Ukrainians to «liberate their territory from the Russian occupation», and emphasized that an independent multilateral institution should be proposed to take care of the post-war conditions.
He also showed concern for the people who want to continue living in Russia, as he considers that Vladimir Putin’s government is destroying the Russian institutions, economy and political system: «We don’t have to worry about Putin. He is the only actor we have to get out of the way,» he has advocated.
She has also defended that Putin «is alone, if he has only one ally it is Iran», but she considers that there are no other countries that give him support in the war, since China does not agree, according to her, with the Russian aggression to a sovereign state, in reference to Ukraine.
