The headquarters of the Embassy of the European Union (EU) in Central African Republic (CAR) has registered a fire in the early hours of Monday morning that has ended without casualties, as confirmed by the ambassador of the bloc in Bangui, Douglas Darius Carpenter.
«The buildings of the EU delegation in Bangui have been affected by a fire this evening. No injuries,» Carpenter said in a message on his account on the social network Twitter, without at the moment have transcended the reasons for the event.
«We thank all our members for their patience during the period of reorganization of our services,» he said. RCA authorities have not yet commented on the incident, the second to affect a diplomatic legation in the last three days.
Earlier on Friday, the head of the Russian House, Dimitri Siti, was seriously injured after a parcel bomb exploded near the Russian Embassy in Bangui. Moscow spoke of an assassination attempt and the founder of the Russian mercenary group Wagner, Yevgeni Prigozhin, pointed directly to France as responsible for the attack.
The event took place one day after France withdrew its last military personnel from CAR following the breakdown of its military cooperation with Bangui, in the midst of bilateral tensions due to the presence of Wagner mercenaries in the country. Thus, the French Army left the African country after 62 years of continuous presence through its logistic mission, installed at the capital’s airport.
