
A man was arrested late Tuesday in London, the British capital, after setting a small fire next to one of the entrance gates of Buckingham Palace, the Metropolitan Police said Wednesday.
The detainee, a 30-year-old man, who has been charged with causing damage, had tried to start a fire in the area at around 10 p.m. (local time), according to reports from ‘The Daily Mirror’ newspaper.
Images spread through social networks show a man causing a small fire next to the door just before being reduced by several Scotland Yard officers, who have arrested him.
«Shortly after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, a 30-year-old man has been arrested on charges of causing damage after a small fire was detected near the gates of Buckingham Palace. The man is in custody and the fire has been extinguished,» the Police said in a statement.
At the moment, the causes of the incident are unknown. However, in recent months several activists against climate change have protested in front of the palace and blocked several streets in the city center.
