A court in Germany on Friday sentenced Abdalrahman A., the main suspect in the stabbing of several people on a train in the German city of Nuremberg in November 2021, to 14 years in prison.
The defendant, a 28-year-old man of Syrian origin, has been found guilty of attempted murder and assault for the incident, which left four people injured, three of them seriously. The attack took place on board a train covering the distance between the German cities of Regensburg and Nuremberg.
Although the judge has ruled that the attack would have been caused by the defendant’s «Islamist convictions», the case was ruled out as a terrorist attack during the investigations.
«The defendant had no psychological problems and committed this act because of his Salafist beliefs,» said Judge Jochen Bosl, who said that «he wanted to kill the non-Muslim passengers as infidels. However, his lawyers have insisted that he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.
