The Venezuelan Prosecutor’s Office reported Thursday that a woman was sentenced to more than 17 years in prison after committing a trafficking crime against a 15-year-old girl.
Specifically, the Venezuelan Supreme Court of Justice has ruled 17 years and seven months for the accused, who tricked the victim to prostitute her in the mining state of Bolivar, which is located on the Venezuelan border with Brazil, as detailed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in a statement.
There, the accused forced the minor to have sex with men «in exchange for several grams of gold», as detailed by the prosecutor, recalling that the woman was arrested after the police launched an investigation and found her whereabouts.
The UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women for Latin America has reiterated on many occasions that Venezuelan women are deceived and become victims of trafficking.
