At least two minors have died and four others have been injured in a house fire in the U.S. city of New York, more specifically in the borough of Staten Island.
At 10.18 am (local time) the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) received a notice because a fire had broken out in a house and there were children trapped on the second floor, as reported in a statement on the social network Twitter.
Upon arrival, a fire crew extinguished the fire and rescued a total of eight children who were inside the house. Of these, a five-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene, while a six-year-old boy died at the hospital, according to the New York Police Department.
Two other children are in critical condition and two teenagers have minor injuries, as well as a firefighter.
So far the relationship between the victims is unknown, but a police spokesman consulted by NBC has detailed that it is believed that all are part of the same family. In this sense, the police suspect that there were no adults at home at the time of the fire.
