Chile’s Industrial Production Index (IPI) fell by 5 percent in November compared to the same month in 2021, due to negative incidences in two of the three sectors that comprise it, according to data from Chile’s National Statistics Institute (INE).
The production of the manufacturing industry had the greatest impact on the result, falling 7.6 percent compared to October 2021. It was followed in incidence by the Mining Production Index (IPMin), which decreased by 3.2 percent in twelve months, caused by the lower activity of two of the three activities that compose it, especially metallic mining.
On the contrary, the Electricity, Gas and Water Production Index (Ipega) grew 0.3 percent compared to November 2021. This increase is a consequence of the higher activity registered in the electricity area.
Compared to October, Chile’s year-on-year industrial production decreased by 0.8 points, reflecting a downward trend, although this time electricity production experienced growth, while mining decreased its activity (in October, it was the opposite scenario).
