U.S. journalist and television host Barbara Walters died Friday night at the age of 93 at her home in New York, as reported by ABC, where the journalist worked most of her life.
«I have some sad news to share today. Barbara Walters passed away tonight at her home in New York,» said Bob Iger, CEO of Walt Disney Co, ABC’s parent company.
Walters spent more than half a century in television, as host of NBC’s Today and ABC’s 20/20 shows, as well as frequent specials such as her annual «10 Most Fascinating People» program.
«Barbara was a true legend, a trailblazer not only for women in journalism but for journalism itself. She was a unique reporter in her field who landed many of the most important interviews of our time,» Iger has recounted in a statement.
Specifically, the journalist has a list of interviewees that includes all U.S. presidents, from Richard Nixon to Barack Obama, as well as Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi and Cuba’s Fidel Castro, on two occasions.
«Barbara will be missed by all of us and we send our deepest condolences to her daughter, Jacqueline,» concludes the message from the CEO of Walt Disney Co.
