U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to announce between February and April his intention to run for reelection in 2024 and thus dispel doubts about his ability to continue governing the country due to his advanced age of 80 years, according to multiple sources close to the president confirmed to The Hill portal.
Biden’s campaign is finalizing the timing of the announcement. Two possibilities are being considered for now: an announcement in February, around the time of the State of the Union address, or a more formal presentation in April.
The president has discussed these terms during his recent Christmas vacation in the Virgin Islands, accompanied by his family. «I think it’s all now a matter of choosing the timing. It looks like he intends to go all in. It is no longer a question mark whether he will run or not,» said a source close to the president.
Sources close to Biden, according to The Hill, have preferred to remain silent about the president’s intentions until the end of the tough fight within the opposition Republican Party for the leadership of the House of Representatives, the lower house of Congress.
California Congressman Kevin McCarthy finally won the post after fourteen unsuccessful votes that have highlighted the division between moderate Republicans and those loyal to former President Donald Trump.
It should be recalled that Trump officially presented his candidacy for the 2024 presidential elections in November last year, affirming his intentions to «make America great and glorious again».
«In order to make America great and glorious again, tonight I announce my candidacy for president of the United States,» Trump said to applause from his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
