The Greek Government will be represented at the funeral in memory of the former King Constantine also by the Deputy Prime Minister, Panagiotis Pikrammenos, who will join the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, as official representatives at a funeral that will have no official status.
The Executive has updated this Friday its attendance to the funeral, which will also be attended by representatives of European royalty, including King Felipe and Queen Letizia, reports the public broadcaster ERT. The last king of Greece, who held the crown between 1964 and 1973, will not have a state funeral.
The ceremony will take place on Monday at 12.00 at the Orthodox Cathedral of Athens, after four hours of funeral chapel. The remains of Constantine of Greece will rest in the cemetery of Tatoi, together with other deceased members of the deposed royal house.
Constantine II is considered a controversial figure in Greek history for his role during the military dictatorship that ruled the country between 1967 and 1974. Following his death on Tuesday, Greek Prime Minister Kyiriakos Mitsotakis said the ex-king’s life «marked and was marked by turbulent moments in the country’s modern history.»
