Brasilia’s former Security Secretary Anderson Torres has refused Wednesday to testify before the Federal Police in the framework of the investigation against him for alleged connivance and omission of functions during the assault of the mob of supporters of Jair Bolsonaro, to the headquarters of the three powers on January 8.
Bolsonaro’s last Minister of Justice assured that he had no statements to offer and a little more than an hour later concluded the hearing held at the Military Police facilities in Guara, one of the administrative regions of the Federal District.
Torres, who has been in prison since Saturday after arriving in Brazil from the United States, is being investigated for the crimes of terrorism, coup d’état and criminal organization for the acts that occurred on the Esplanade of the Ministries, of which he has already denied any type of involvement either by action or omission.
«I deeply regret that absurd hypotheses of any kind of connivance on my part with the barbarities we are witnessing» and that in a case of collective madness like this, we must seek solutions consistent with the importance of Brazilian democracy», he wrote at the time on social networks.
Since his entry into prison, Torres has been receiving psychological treatment, according to sources to which the Brazilian press has had access, he is despondent and does not understand why he has been arrested.
For the facts occurred last January 8 in the Brazilian capital, the Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes decreed his arrest, as Secretary of Security of the Federal District, as well as the temporary dismissal of the former governor, Ibaneis Rocha.
