Brazil’s Federal Justice on Wednesday ordered the blocking of the assets of 52 people and seven companies suspected of financing the January 8 assault on the seat of state powers by a mob of supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro.

Thus, the Brazilian Justice has given the ‘green light’ to this decision, requested by the Attorney General’s Office and which has as its ultimate purpose to cover the reparations for the damages caused by the assailants, according to ‘O Globo’.

Among those sanctioned is Ademir Luis Graeff, a businessman from Paraná – a state where Bolsonaro had a great support -, and who has been blocked a luxury car to, with it, pay the expenses caused by the damages in the Congress, the Planalto Palace and the Supreme Court.

On the other hand, a businessman from Santa Catarina has also had up to five vehicles blocked, while Gran Brasil Viagens e Turismo, a company dedicated to the tourism sector in Minas Gerais, has had up to seven buses blocked.

Those accused of financing the invasion of the headquarters of the three branches of government will now have the possibility of defending themselves during a judicial process after which, if they are finally acquitted, they will be able to recover their assets.

This decision of the Brazilian Justice comes in the context of the response of the authorities to the assault on the powers of the State that took place last January 8, an episode reminiscent of the one that occurred in January 2021 in the Capitol of the United States and with respect to which it is now trying to find out the link that Bolsonaro himself might have had.
