The South African Army announced Thursday that it will conduct joint military maneuvers with Russia and China during the month of February with the aim of «strengthening the already flourishing relations» between the three countries.

«As a means of strengthening the already flourishing relations between South Africa, Russia and China, a multinational maritime exercise between these three countries, called ‘MOSI’, will take place in the Durban and Richards Bay areas of Kwa-Zulu Natal province between 17 and 27 February 2023,» the Army has said.

Thus, it has said in a statement published on its account on the social network Twitter that «it will be the second time that such maneuvers take place involving the three naval forces, after the first one, held in November 2019 in Cape Town, South Africa.»

«The maneuver coordinators have concluded all necessary coordination and preparation arrangements for these maneuvers through virtual planning conferences held in early December 2022,» it has specified.

In this regard, he has specified that 350 South African military personnel will participate in the maneuvers «alongside Russian and Chinese counterparts» to «share operational capabilities and knowledge».

South Africa, one of the countries on the African continent that has declined to take a position on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, assumed in December 2022 the rotating presidency of the group known as BRICS, which also includes Brazil, Russia, India and China.
