The Mexican authorities have ordered to fence off the exterior of the National Palace -headquarters of the Executive- and the Palace of Fine Arts in the capital in view of the demonstration planned for this Friday against the police presence in the subway facilities.
Social organizations have called for this Friday afternoon (local time) a demonstration in the streets of Mexico City under the slogan ‘Mobility without fear’ and in which the main demand is the withdrawal of police agents from the suburban train facilities.
The Mexico City subway has been the scene in recent weeks of incidents «out of the ordinary», which is why the authorities decided last week to deploy the National Guard there to guard the facilities.
The most serious of these events occurred at the beginning of January, when an accident left one dead and more than 50 people injured, although in subsequent days all kinds of incidents occurred on different lines, including a fire in a carriage.
A meeting of the Security Cabinet -with the presence of the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and the Mayor of the capital, Claudia Sheinbaum- is scheduled for this Friday to analyze the first results of the police deployment in the subway.
