A group of 70 Ukrainian military personnel has arrived in Germany to receive training in the use of the Patriot anti-aircraft defense system, which Berlin has placed in Kiev’s hands to cope with Russian air strikes.
The group arrived in Germany during the day on Tuesday and has started its training this Thursday, according to security sources quoted by the German news agency DPA.
The German government agreed in January to send a Patriot defense system to Ukraine after consultations with the United States. Also, the units deployed in Poland indicated on Wednesday that they were in «initial operational readiness».
Germany offered Poland to send these systems after two people were killed in early November following the fall of a missile on Polish territory. The projectile was fired by Ukrainian defense systems in response to an attack by Russia.
