Mexico’s Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, has expressed confidence that he will win the nomination to run for the country’s presidency in next year’s elections, while a dispute continues within Morena, the ruling party, to succeed Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
Ebrard is «sure» that he will present his candidacy to the 2024 federal elections, as he confessed in an interview to Bloomberg agency, adding that Morena must have a «transparent» process to decide the candidacy.
Morena’s next candidate for the Mexican elections could be chosen in a primary by the political formation’s supporters, as the Mexican president has devised. However, the proposal raises doubts about the transparency of the process due to the unreliability of the polls.
A survey published by the Mexican newspaper ‘El Financiero’ and picked up by the aforementioned agency shows that support among Morena supporters is higher for Ebrard, who was ahead of Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, who had 20 percent of the votes, with 35 percent.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, obtained another 20 percent of support, followed by Senator Ricardo Monreal with nine percent.
