Chinese President Xi Jinping’s top foreign policy advisor will begin a five-nation tour of Europe on Tuesday, which will also include stops in Russia and Germany, in the latter case for the Munich Security Conference, where he will meet with other international leaders.
Wang Yi, former Foreign Minister and now head of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party, will visit in the coming days France, Italy, Hungary, Russia and Germany, according to the agenda known on Monday and collected by official media.
The top diplomat of the Asian giant will deliver a speech in Munich in which he will present the main lines of China’s foreign policy, explained a Foreign Ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbin, in statements to the media. Beijing defends that it advocates peaceful development.
The tour is preceded by the doubts raised among Western governments by China’s position in relation to the military offensive launched by Russia over Ukraine almost a year ago, which also adds to the recent controversy over the use of alleged spy balloons.
