
At least 20 people were killed and nearly 70 injured late Monday after a bus and a van collided head-on on the outskirts of South Africa’s Limpopo province (north), the ER24 emergency service confirmed, noting that the bus fell off a bridge after the collision.
«Twenty people are confirmed dead and 68 injured in a head-on accident between a bus and a cash-in-transit van on the N1 in the Makhado area of Limpopo,» ER24 said via a statement. «The bus subsequently fell over the dual carriageway bridge into a river running underneath, landing on the left side,» it has added.
Thus, it has detailed that «most of the deceased were trapped under the bus.» «The exact details surrounding the collision are unknown at this time, although the South African Police are on the scene for investigations,» he said, before noting that «heavy rains» had been recorded in the area.
