The Chinese government on Tuesday accused the U.S. government of sending «multiple» balloons from its territory since May 2022, in line with the complaints Beijing first voiced on Monday and adding new factors to the recent downing of unidentified objects in North America.
The Asian giant’s authorities on Monday accused the Americans of violating China’s airspace on more than a dozen occasions. Joe Biden’s administration denied these accusations, but Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin insisted at a press conference.
According to Beijing, «since last year, especially since May, the United States has sent multiple high-altitude balloons from its territory,» which would have affected both China’s and other countries’ airspace. «The United States needs to look at it and give explanations to China,» Wang has claimed, according to statements released by the Ministry itself.
The spokesman also criticized NATO after its secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, saw in the U.S. accusations of alleged espionage the confirmation of a «pattern» of surveillance orchestrated from both China and Russia.
These statements, he added, «are nothing more than perverse speculation.» «We urge NATO to stop accusing China without evidence, to stop creating fabricated enemies and to act in the interests of world peace and stability,» Wang added.
He also called on the Japanese government to act «objectively and impartially» and not to follow the United States in its «dramatization», after the Japanese authorities also denounced the alleged presence of Chinese artifacts in their airspace.
