The Megalopolis Environmental Commission (CAME) has activated this Saturday the Phase 1 environmental contingency in the Valley of Mexico, after high ozone levels were registered in the monitoring station of the Coyoacán Mayor’s Office, due to the high solar radiation registered throughout the day.

The CAME has activated this protocol with the objective of reducing the exposure of the population to polluted air and thus avoiding that this may have effects on their health. In addition, the reduction of travel will contribute to reduce the generation of pollutants and return to the 155 ppb ozone level of this Saturday.

The authorities have recommended the population to avoid any type of outdoor activity, whether cultural, exercise or mass shows, between 13.00 and 19.00 hours. Likewise, it has been recommended not to smoke, especially in closed places.

In addition, a list of measures has been provided to contribute to the reduction of emissions, such as facilitating remote work, avoiding the use of aerosols and aromatizers, refueling gasoline after 6:00 p.m. and repairing leaks in gas installations.

In the coming hours, restrictions will also be imposed on travel in private vehicles, gas delivery vehicles, cargo vehicles and some cabs.
