Trump blames Senate GOP leader for midterm election failure

Former U.S. Gov. Donald Trump on Sunday blamed Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican, for the electoral failure of the midterm elections after failing to meet the expectations indicated by the polls.

«It’s Mitch McConnell’s fault. Spending money to defeat great Republican candidates instead of backing Blake Masters and others was a big mistake,» Trump has written on his social network profile, Truth Social, referring to investing money in Senator Lisa Murkowski’s race against Trump-backed Kelly Tshibaka.

«He failed the midterms, and everyone despises him and his lovely wife, Coco Chow!» the former president continued, as reported by The Hill newspaper.

The Republicans have lost the battle for control of the Senate, while it is unknown for the moment who will manage to win the House of Representatives, due to the fact that for the moment the results are even.

Although the Republican Party continues to be the favorite for the Lower House, it has not met expectations, which spoke of a «red wave», whereby they would win that body by a margin and make it difficult for the Democrats to keep the Upper House.

In this regard, Republican Party supporters have blamed the former president and the candidates he endorsed in key swing states.

Thus, Republican Senator Bill Cassidy has blamed Trump-aligned politicians for focusing on issues that are «outdated» such as the 2020 elections on «voter fraud,» instead of giving importance to crime or the economy.

Before the Senate ended up in Democratic hands, Trump admitted that the midterm elections were «somewhat disappointing,» but still a «great victory.»
