The latest wave of Russian shelling has left more than ten million people without electricity supply in Ukraine, according to the president, Volodimir Zelenski, who has promised to do «everything possible» to «normalize» the energy situation.

Russian forces have this week launched dozens of missiles on Ukrainian territory, again with energy infrastructure as a priority target. Local authorities have been warning the population for weeks of possible cuts and calling for energy saving measures.

The government, for its part, is carrying out temporary and planned cuts, but, as Zelenski acknowledged in a speech to the nation, there are also «emergency» cuts. The regions of Vinitsia, Odessa, Sumi and Kiev are the most affected by the latest attacks.

«We repeat to our partners again and again that only the full protection of the Ukrainian sky will protect both Ukraine and Europe from a possible escalation of Russian aggression,» said Zelenski, whose government even calls for the implementation of a no-fly zone.

Authorities in Kiev have advised citizens of the capital to stock up on water and food in view of the possibility of further problems in key supplies, according to the UNIAN agency.
