The emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday that the Russian authorities have shared with the Qataris their «experience» in organizing a World Cup, two days before the start of the 2022 edition.
Qatar takes over the baton from Russia as host of this event, surrounded by controversy. Putin has congratulated the emir on the start of the event and is confident that the local team will perform well, according to a statement released by the Kremlin.
Apart from sports, the two leaders also discussed current political and economic issues, with a view to ensuring, for example, good cooperation in the energy field. In this regard, they advocated ensuring the stability of the world gas market.
