U.S. President Joe Biden on Monday approved a disaster declaration for South Carolina in response to the damage caused by Hurricane Ian in early October.
«Today, President Joe Biden declared that a major disaster exists in the State of South Carolina and ordered federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane ‘Ian’ during the period September 25 through October 4, 2022,» reads a statement released by the White House.
Thus, Biden has made federal funds available for one month to the counties of Berkeley, Charleston, Clarendon, Clarendon, Georgetown, Horry, Jasper and Williamsburg to cover the costs of repairing homes and other uninsured properties.
It also makes federal funds available to affected people in the Bering Strait, Kashunamiut, Lower Kuskokwim and Lower Yukon areas.
However, the White House has reminded that funding will also be available to state and local governments.
Hurricane Ian wreaked havoc in the United States, leaving more than 100 people dead as well as massive power outages.
