Polish President Andrzej Duda was forced to hang up the phone on Tuesday after realizing that an impostor had impersonated French President Emmanuel Macron, with whom he wanted to talk about the fall of a Ukrainian missile in the town of Przewodów, bordering Ukraine.
«During the call, President Andrzej Duda realized from the unusual way the interlocutor was conducting the conversation that there might be an attempt of fraud and terminated the conversation,» the Polish president’s office has reported on its Twitter profile.
In the video, which has quickly spread through social networks, the Polish president is shown talking to a French comedian who has impersonated Macron in the context of a discussion about the incident in Przewodów, which claimed the lives of two people, Polish news agency PAP has reported.
The victims were at an agricultural facility when the explosion occurred, which set off all the alarms, as Poland could appeal to NATO’s mutual defense clause in case it was a Russian attack.
Preliminary investigations ruled out that it was a projectile fired by Russia and, instead, pointed to a missile fired by Ukraine’s anti-aircraft defense systems, which that day activated the alert for the largest wave of bombings since the beginning of the offensive in Ukraine.
