The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has condemned on Wednesday the shooting at a supermarket in the state of Virginia, which has resulted in six deaths, and has ordered to allocate federal aid to the families of the victims and those affected.

In a statement, the president described what happened as «terrible» and said it was a «senseless act of violence». «Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, our most cherished holiday, which unites us as Americans and families. The day we embrace our loved ones,» he said.

However, he has said, «a new act of violence has left some tables with empty seats.» «Now there are more families who know the worst feeling of loss and unimaginable pain,» he added.

He has also expressed his condolences to the families of those affected and the community of Chesapeake, where the shooting took place, which also left several injured. «Virginia had recently suffered a terrible shooting at its main university,» he lamented.

«We offer condolences to all those in the United States who have lost loved ones in tragic shootings. We must come together as a nation to address this,» he continued before stressing that his administration has succeeded in pushing through major gun control and use reform. «It’s not enough,» he admitted. «We have to take more action,» he maintained.

In this sense, he has thanked the officers who have responded to the shooting to help the victims. «I call for assistance and aid to be delivered to all those affected in Chesapeake,» he concluded.
