Biden reiterates his proposal to ban the sale of assault weapons in the wake of recent shootings in the U.S.

U.S. President Joe Biden has once again reiterated his proposal to ban the sale of assault weapons to the public, a debate that has been reignited after recent shootings in the states of Virginia and Colorado.

«The idea that we still allow the purchase of semi-automatic weapons is sickening,» Biden denounced Thursday during a visit to Nantucket, in the state of Massachusetts, according to ABC.

In addition, the president stressed that the ban on the sale of this type of weaponry does not have «not one logical reason» against it, and that if something has not been abolished yet is for «the profits of arms manufacturers».

Although Biden is convinced of the need to stop these sales, the political reality is very different, even more so after the Republicans took control of the House of Representatives after the last mid-term elections.

It is therefore more than unlikely that the U.S. Congress will give the ‘green light’ to this reform that Biden is calling for. «I’m going to try, I’m going to try to put an end to assault weapons,» said the White House tenant.

The states of Virginia and Colorado have recently been the scene of new shootings that have resulted in the death of about a dozen people and have again intensified the gun debate.
