Russian gas giant Gazprom has said it will finally not reduce the supply Moldova receives through Ukraine, after the Moldovan firm, Moldovagaz, has «corrected» alleged contractual violations regarding payments and deliveries.

Gazprom claimed last week that the volume of gas sent through the Sudzha pipeline for transit to Moldova via Ukraine «exceeds the physical volume transmitted at Ukraine’s border with Moldova,» which would imply that part of the supply would remain on Ukrainian territory.

Implicit in this announcement was a warning about a possible supply cut, but now the Russian company has settled the dispute and therefore «has decided not to reduce the gas supply at the Sudzha pumping station for transit to Moldova».

«Gazprom has received the funds for the gas intended for Moldovan consumers that has remained on Ukrainian territory,» according to the official note, picked up by the TASS agency.

The Ukrainian gas company, for its part, had accused Gazprom of manipulating the facts to justify an alleged cut-off and denied that it had committed any irregularity in the matter of pipelines to Moldova.
