The Chile Vamos party has proposed at this Friday’s meeting to form a team composed of 50 experts and an equivalent number of people appointed by the Parliament representing the political forces for the drafting of the new constitutional text.
The formation has specified in the text that all the people who would be part of this body should be professionals of «recognized experience in public, constitutional and institutional matters» and that those who are part of the experts cannot have been in the previous group of constituents nor be sitting parliamentarians, according to ‘Bio Bio Chile’.
On the other hand, the persons appointed by the Chamber would respond to the proportion of the representation of the blocks or political forces in the Congress through a closed list that would be proposed by the Lower Chamber and then ratified by the Senate.
The congressmen would be elected through a voting system with universal suffrage and mandatory voting, parity lists composed of coalitions or parties in which independents would be included.
This body will be in charge of drafting a preliminary draft that should serve as the basis for the discussion and drafting of the new constitutional text, after the previous proposal was rejected in the popular referendum of September 4, 2022.
