Greek security forces arrested 21 people on Wednesday in connection with riots on the anniversary of the death of a 15-year-old teenager in 2008 at the hands of the police.
The protests have been concentrated in Exarchia, a neighborhood of Athens, the capital, and coincided with the 14th anniversary of the death of the young man, according to reports in the daily ‘Kathimerini’.
On Tuesday, demonstrations were reported in the northern city of Thessaloniki over the shooting of a 16-year-old Roma teenager over the weekend, also by police officers.
The young man, who was shot in the head, is hospitalized in serious condition. Members of the Roma community and the police have clashed outside the hospital as protesters have accused the authorities of racism and discrimination within the police force.
