Vidiye Tshimanga, a former strategic advisor to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Felix Tshisekedi, has accused the prosecution of failing to provide sufficient evidence after a prosecutor sought three years in prison against him for influence peddling and corruption.

«The prosecutor general’s accusation is for three years, but I will not accept even a second in prison because I am innocent, (I ask) to be acquitted and to be allowed to continue with an honorable life as I had before the scandal,» said Tshimanga, as reported by the news portal Actualité.

The final judgment against Tshisekedi’s former advisor, who was remanded in custody on September 21, is expected in about ten days. Tshimanga is accused of negotiating with alleged investors in exchange for obtaining a contract.

According to the lawyers of the former advisor to the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the evidence provided has been «edited and disseminated» on social networks, as it shows Tshimanga in Kinshasha and not in London, where he has defended that he was.
