Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski announced Saturday that the city of Bajmut in eastern Ukraine is «destroyed» and has been reduced to «ashes and ruins» during the latest offensive that Russia has started in the last hours in Donetsk and Lugansk.
This offensive has been confirmed by the spokesman of the Russian Army, General Igor Konashenkov, and has resulted in advances between the towns of Kremina and Liman.
Bakhmut is a town located in the Donetsk region which, since a few days ago, has become one of the epicenters of the war. Russian forces have confirmed that they are positioned right now in the vicinity of the town, which they are attacking with artillery.
Approximately 75,000 people lived in the town before the war.
Zelenski has lamented that «the occupants have destroyed Bajmut, as well as Soledar, Marinka or Kremina». «There is no place there that has not been damaged by fire and artillery,» the president added in his daily address.
