The Kremlin said Sunday that European countries are trading «one dependence for another dependence» on the energy market by turning away from Russia over the invasion of Ukraine in exchange for getting «US liquefied natural gas.»
«They don’t want to say that they want to exchange one dependence for another dependence, that is, they have exchanged dependence on Russia for dependence on American liquefied natural gas. It is exactly the same dependence, but with much less reciprocity,» said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Thus, he stressed in an interview to Rossiya-1 television channel that «now that Europeans are losing billions of euros every day, those billions are being earned in Washington», as reported by the Interfax news agency.
Peskov has further noted that relations with the West are frozen at a point of «confrontation.» «We are not moving. We have reached a station called confrontation and we must be powerful and have a margin of safety, because we have to live under the conditions of this confrontation,» he has concluded.
