Malaysia – At least 13 dead and seven injured after landslide in Malaysia

At least 13 people have lost their lives and seven have been injured following a landslide at a camp in Batang Kali town in Malaysia’s Selangor province.

At around 3.00 a.m. (local time), Malaysian emergency services received a call about a landslide, after which several teams of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Corps arrived, as reported by ‘New Straits Times’.

Once there, the firefighters found the lifeless bodies of 13 people, while they managed to rescue 53 others. Of the total number of people freed, seven were injured and were taken to nearby hospitals for medical care.

«Fifty-three victims escaped unharmed from the landslide, while seven were injured. Eight victims died. Search and rescue operation is ongoing,» Malaysia’s National Disaster Management Agency detailed on Twitter.

In this regard, search and rescue efforts continue while 25 people remain trapped at the site of the incident, according to the newspaper.

Earlier, police confirmed that one of the victims was a minor, although the exact age has not been disclosed. Security forces also said they estimate that the height of the landslide was 30 meters.
