One-time Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was found guilty Monday by a Los Angeles court of rape, forcible oral copulation as well as a third count of sexual misconduct.
These three charges for which the producer has been convicted were linked to one of his accusers, a model and actress who testified that the movie mogul assaulted her in a Beverly Hills hotel room in February 2013, CNN has reported.
However, jurors have found Weinstein not guilty of one count of sexual assault by restraint against another woman.
«Harvey Weinstein forever destroyed a part of me that night in 2013. I will never get my back. The criminal trial was brutal. Weinstein’s lawyers put me through hell on the witness stand. But I knew I had to see this through to the end, and I did,» the actress who was abused by the producer in Beverly Hills, identified anonymously as Jane Doe 1, has said in a statement.
«I hope Harvey Weinstein never sees the outside of a prison cell in his lifetime,» Jane Doe 1 has added.
The decision — with one conviction to go — will add more years in prison for Weinstein, who is 70 years old and already serving a 23-year sentence in New York for other violations, according to ‘The Los Angeles Times’.
More than 100 women have accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct since 2017, the moment when the #MeToo movement was unleashed, when countless actresses, models and women in the film world denounced the producer.
In 2020, two years after the allegations against him came to light, a New York jury sentenced the once-powerful producer to 23 years in prison for one count of third-degree rape committed on Jessica Mann, and a first-degree sex offense on production assistant Mimi Haley.
However, the jury — made up of five women and seven men — acquitted the disgraced movie mogul of the most serious charges, first-degree rape and, especially, the predatory sexual conduct charge that could have carried a life sentence.
