Thousands of flights across the United States had to be temporarily or permanently suspended Wednesday morning following a computer glitch in the country’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) system.
All aircraft were grounded until further notice, although authorities confirmed that they are working to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
The FAA itself has indicated in a statement that its Air Mission Alert (NOTAM) has «failed» throughout the morning. This is an alert containing essential information for workers operating flights. «Operations throughout the national airspace have been affected,» the FAA has stressed.
Authorities estimate that more than 1,200 flights have been affected and have suffered delays at numerous points in the country, while a hundred have been directly canceled, which has raised controversy among passengers, as reported by NBC News.
