The European Union on Monday expressed its «shock» at the killing of Mursal Nabizada, a member of the former Afghan Parliament deposed by the Taliban in an attack under investigation at her home in Kabul.
The death of Nabizada and her bodyguard is «another brutal reminder» of the «plight» of Afghans and the security threats to women under the Taliban regime, EU foreign affairs spokeswoman Nabila Massrali said in a message on social media.
In this regard, the spokeswoman offered the EU’s condolences to the family of the politician and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack. Her brother was also injured in the attack.
This is the first time a former Afghan politician has been killed since the return to power of the Taliban in August 2021. Many Afghan politicians, including several female lawmakers, sought refuge outside the country after the return to power of the Taliban.
