Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Sunday during an event in Brusa that the presidential elections will be held on May 14.
«This spring will be another spring. I believe that together, with our youth, we will fill the ballot boxes in a very different way,» Erdogan said during a crowded youth gathering, Turkish daily ‘Hurriyet’ reports.
«We are not going to stop. We ARE going to work and we will take all our young brothers to the polls. We are going to make the ballot boxes resound. I want to greet all the young people of Bursa (…). We will work harder and fight harder. Thank Allah for you, our young brothers, who will join us in the elections to be held on May 14,» Erdogan said.
Erdogan also recalled that the voting age was lowered to 25 and then to 18 «because we trust our youth».
The Turkish president made no mention of the legislative elections, which must be held on June 18 at the latest, so it seems likely that they will also be brought forward to May 14.
