The headquarters of the Lebanese television network LBCI was attacked on Sunday night by unidentified persons who threw an explosive device at the building during the evening news, an event that resulted in material damage, according to the media itself.
The network said the attack was perpetrated by unidentified persons on a motorcycle who fled after throwing the device in the parking lot of the building. The causes of the attack are not known at the moment.
The incident took place after two comedians of the channel received threats for comments considered offensive to Shiite Muslims and comes about a month after a similar attack against a building of the Lebanese channel Al Jadid in the capital, Beirut.
For his part, acting Prime Minister Nayib Mikati has spoken to LBCI President Pierre el Dahel to stress that «investigations will be intensified until the circumstances of the incident are clarified,» the Naharnet news portal reported. «The freedom of the responsible press will be safeguarded and will not be intimidated by any attack,» he concluded.
