A dozen people were injured Sunday in a shooting at a nightclub in the city of Baton Rouge, in the U.S. state of Louisiana.
Police in the city are currently searching for at least one suspect involved in the attack, which has been described by authorities as a «targeted attack», reports ABC News.
«This was not a random act of violence, according to preliminary investigative efforts. We believe this was a targeted event, where someone was specifically targeted and others were injured in that process,» Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul has stated.
Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome has called the attack a «senseless act of violence that will not go unchecked.» «This is a sad event after our community has continually worked to disrupt the violence,» she said.
«We will not stop our work until everyone feels safe and people no longer resort to guns to resolve their differences,» Broome said in a series of messages on his Twitter profile.
Several witnesses have indicated that around 01.30 local time would have started a fight between two groups of customers, after which some people pulled out guns and started shooting, reports CNN.
The investigation is ongoing, and although the authorities have some clues, they have asked for citizen collaboration.
