At least one person has died and three others have been injured after a shooting at a shopping mall in the U.S. city of El Paso, in the state of Texas, near the Walmart where 23 people were killed in 2019, local authorities have reported.
At 18.15 hours (local time), at least one gunman has perpetrated an attack in the Cielo Vista shopping center, claiming the life of one person and injuring three others, who have been taken to a hospital, although their clinical condition is unknown, CNN has reported.
Police have arrested the suspected perpetrator of the attack, although they continue to investigate the possibility of a second attacker or accomplice.
«Police respond to gunfire at Cielo Vista Mall food court, scene still active. Avoid the area,» El Paso Police said in a statement on the social network Twitter after the shooting began.
The Cielo Vista mall is just 100 meters from the Walmart where another shooting in 2019 claimed the lives of 23 people and left two dozen injured. Then, Texas Governor Greg Abbot called the attack «one of the bloodiest days» in the state’s history, all amid the shock generated across the country.
So far in 2023, there have been more than 70 shootings in the United States, according to the Gun Violence Archive, the most recent at a university, where three students were killed, as reported by CNN.
