The PSV Eindhoven fan who jumped onto the pitch at the Philips Stadion to attack Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic in the second leg of the Europa League round of 32 has been sentenced to three months in jail, a Dutch judge ruled on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old fan will also be banned from the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven for the next two years. The convicted man, who was drunk at the time of the assault, was already serving a ban, although he has not disclosed how he entered the stadium. He has been fired from his job and expelled from the PSV supporters’ club to which he belonged.
The young man ran onto the pitch in the final stretch of the match and punched Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic in the back before attempting to punch him in the face. The goalkeeper quickly pounced on him and pinned him to the ground while security arrived. PSV won the match 2-0, but were eliminated from the Europa League 3-2 on aggregate.
