A committee of the lower house of the Russian Parliament, the Duma, plans to extend the ban on «propaganda» advocating «non-traditional sexual relations» to all age groups, which is now exclusively forbidden to minors.
This was announced by Alexander Jinshtein, head of the Duma’s Committee on Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications, reports Interfax agency, echoing statements on its Telegram channel.
«Today, such a ban applies exclusively to children. This, clearly, is not enough. We propose, in general, to extend the ban on such propaganda regardless of the age of the audience,» Jinshtein wrote.
The measure envisages banning the dissemination of such content in the media, the Internet, social networks, in even in cinemas, as well as establishing an extension of the Criminal Code to recognize it as an administrative offense to make «apology» for it.
On the other hand, it is also contemplated to toughen the penalties for pedophilia crimes, the prohibition among children not only of this «propaganda», but of any other that shows «non-traditional» sexual relations, or other «perversions».
«I consider this task extremely important, not only as the chairman of the relevant committee of the Duma, but also as a father of two children,» he has assessed.
Until now it was only forbidden to disseminate such material to minors, with penalties for non-compliance of up to fifteen days’ imprisonment and fines that could reach one million rubles (15,900 euros).
