Colombia’s president, Gustavo Petro, has the approval of half of Colombians after passing the first 100 days in office, according to a survey conducted by Invamer and published on Saturday.

A 49.7 percent of those surveyed (1,200) gave a favorable opinion of the president’s administration, which represents a growth of 3.7 percentage points compared to October.

According to the data provided by the survey, the Colombian president has more support in the north of the country (60.4%) and in Bogota (55.6%), while in the Center East and Coffee Region, he is close to 50%, according to ‘El Colombiano’.

Young people are the age group most favorable to the current president, with 59.6 percent of support among those between 18 and 24 years old and 50.7 percent among those up to 30 years old.

Specifically, the proposal of «total peace» by which Petro seeks to put an end to all types of armed groups is positioned as the most popular policy among citizens, with 51.2 percent in favor.

On the other hand, the proposals to increase taxes in order to allocate these funds to finance social programs and legalize cannabis for recreational use, have the highest social rejection.

The climate reflected in the poll is not positive, despite Petro’s ‘approved’, since 59.8 percent of citizens think that the country is not on the right track and the economy remains the greatest concern for citizens.

Gustavo Petro took office after winning the May 2022 presidential elections and replacing Ivan Duque, who left office with a 27 percent popularity rating.
