Texas Governor Greg Abbott has invoked the «invasion clauses» of the U.S. Constitution as an emergency measure to allow state authorities to take «unprecedented action» against immigration.

«I have invoked the invasion clauses of the U.S. and Texas constitutions to fully authorize Texas to take unprecedented action to defend our state against an invasion,» Abbott said on his official Twitter profile.

Along with this text, Abbott shared a photograph with the eight main measures he will take based on this clause, provided for in the US Magna Carta and which foresees that the country will «protect» each of the states «against invasions» and, at the request of the Executive, «against internal disturbances».

Abbott has thus called for the deployment of the National Guard to «safeguard the borders and to repel and turn back migrants who attempt to cross the border illegally.» He has also called for the deployment of Texas Department of Public Safety agents to «arrest and turn back from the border migrants who cross illegally.»

Other requests Abbott has made include the construction of a multi-county border wall; the deployment of gunboats to secure the border; designating Mexican cartels as «foreign terrorist organizations»; and establishing an agreement with other states to secure the border territory.

Finally, Abbott has called for reaching agreements with foreign agencies to improve the security conditions of the U.S. territorial borders, and allocating to border counties greater resources to increase their capabilities to respond to «border encroachment».

«I am using this constitutional authority, and other authorizations and executive orders, to keep our state and country safe,» the Texas governor remarked.
