Ukrainian authorities said Tuesday that Russian forces continue to withdraw eastward from the Dnieper River in the vicinity of the town of Kherson after leaving the western part.
Ukrainian Army spokeswoman Natalia Humeniuk said that «the enemy’s logistics on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River is under fire from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, so the occupying forces are retreating further,» Ukrinform news agency reported.
«Hypothetically, the enemy could pose a threat to Kherson because the adopted distance allows it to use different types of weapons,» he said, referring to Russia’s decision to withdraw its forces eastward to prevent Kiev from using the area as a springboard to Crimea.
However, Humeniuk stressed that the Ukrainian Army «is not standing still and is ready for counterattacks», although the «enemy forces are moving 15-20 kilometers to the east».
In this regard, he clarified that the Russian forces «are even abandoning their fortifications on the eastern side of the river and continue to move eastward to be prepared for possible artillery fire» by the Ukrainian forces.
