One of the two fatal victims of the projectile that hit Polish territory last Tuesday was buried this Saturday after a state funeral.

An honor company of the Second Reconnaissance Regiment based in Hrubieszow took part in the funeral held in the small town of Przewodow, reports the Polish news agency PAP, which reports numerous wreaths with ribbons in the colors of the Polish and Ukrainian flags.

The protagonist of Saturday’s funeral is a 62-year-old rural administrator. The other victim, 60 years old, will be buried on Sunday also with state honors and also in private ceremonies at the express request of the families.

The victims were in an agricultural facility when the explosion occurred, which set off all the alarms, since Poland could appeal to NATO’s mutual defense clause in case of a Russian attack.

Preliminary inquiries rule out that it was a projectile fired by Russia and, instead, point to a missile fired by the Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense systems, which that day activated the alert for the largest wave of bombings since the beginning of the offensive.

Warsaw has ruled out questioning NATO for this case, which it frames within an escalation of tensions for which it holds Moscow exclusively responsible, while Kiev, which has avoided assuming the missile as its own, has demanded more international support to face the constant attacks.
